TAMPA (Oct. 8, 2015) – The No. 24 USF women's soccer team is on the verge of perfection after notching a 1-0 win over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Thursday night.
In front of 796 fans, the Bulls (11-2-1, 4-1-0 AAC) notched their sixth home win of the season, to improve to a perfect 6-0 at Corbett Stadium. USF is looking to go undefeated at home for the first time since 2013 when the Bulls posted a 8-0-3 home record.
Trudi Carter netted the winning goal in the 71st minute on an assist by Grace Adams. The junior from Kingston, Jamaica took the cross from Adams and then fired a shot into the lower left corner from 20 yards out. It was Carter's fourth goal of the season and first game-winning goal.
The Bulls had their first chance at a goal in the sixth minute on a header by Jackie Simpson. Olivia Chance sent a corner kick into the box for Simpson whose header went just off the crossbar.
Jessica Hamrick had an open look at the net in the 88th minute, but Tulsa keeper Courtney McKeon was able to make the diving save. Adams almost made it a 2-0 game at the buzzer but her shot just skimmed the outside of the net.
The Bulls outshot the Hurricane (11-2-1, 4-1-0 AAC) 22-9 on the night and took double-digit shots in each of the two halves. USF went into halftime with a 12-4 shot advantage before outshooting Tulsa 10-5 in the second half.
Sophomore keeper Kat Elliott had five saves on the night and earned her eighth shutout of the season. Elliott and the USF defense have yet to allow a goal at Corbett in six games this season.
The Bulls will wrap up their home schedule on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. against the Memphis Tigers. Memphis enters the game coming off a 3-1 loss to UCF Thursday night in Orlando. Sunday's game will be senior day and the seven seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
The USF women's soccer team has posted three consecutive 10-plus win seasons and four in the last five years under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. The Bulls made their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2010 and returned in 2014. USF returns 20 players from last year's roster including All-American Athletic Conference first team midfielder Olivia Chance and second team defender Jackie Simpson. They also bring back 12 players that appeared in 15 or more games last season.
