Bulls Drop Heartbreaker in Conference Finals

DALLAS (Nov. 8, 2015)—A valiant effort by the USF women's soccer team to capture a conference crown came up just short. The Bulls dropped a heartbreaker in the finals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament, falling in penalty kicks, 4-2, to Cincinnati.

Leticia Skeete and Grace Adams each found the back of the net on their penalty kick attempts, but Cincinnati would come out on top with the victory Sunday afternoon at Westcott Stadium.

USF had a 1-0 lead and looked to be on the verge of the first championship in program history with 2:40 to go in regulation. Olivia Chance put USF on top in the 59th minute, breaking a scoreless battle. The senior's ninth goal of the season was taken from 18 yards out on an assist from Trudi Carter.

The Bulls continued to fight to keep Cincinnati off the board as sophomore keeper Kat Elliott made four saves. With less than three minutes left on the clock, Cincinnati's Jaycie Brown found the back of the net, flicking the ball over Elliott to tie the game.

USF battled hard in the two overtime periods but couldn't find the back of the net. After 110 minutes of play and the tie still intact, the Bulls went to penalty kicks for the second straight year. Despite making two, USF could not walk away with a title.

The Bulls are now 15-3-3 on the season, tying the record for most wins in a season set back in 1998.

The NCAA tournament selection show will air Monday, Nov. 9, on ncaa.com at 4:30 p.m. First round games are slated for Nov. 13-15 and will be held at 32 non-predetermined campus sites.
