Bulls Drop Doubleheader to #16 Auburn & Marshall

TAMPA, FEB. 20, 2015 – The Bulls got off to a rough start in the USF Wilson DeMarini Tournament on Friday, dropping two games to No. 16/17 Auburn and Marshall.

Game 1: Auburn 6, USF 2

Lauren Evans went 2-for-3 with a homer in USF's 6-2 loss to the Tigers in the first game of Friday's doubleheader.

Auburn (14-1) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and USF bounced back with a run in the bottom half of the frame. Walks by Kristen Wyckoff and Evans, and a single by Lee Ann Spivey set the table for Morgan Litchfield, who drove in a run with a groundout to third.

The Tigers tacked on another run in the third and the Bulls responded with a run of their own in the inning thanks to a powerful freshman. Evans launched a 3-2 pitch over the wall in right-center field for her second homer of the season that cut the deficit to 3-2. Evans (Land O' Lakes) posted four extra-base hits and six RBIs her first nine games this season.

Auburn extended its lead to 6-3 with a three-run fifth inning that included a two-run homer by Haley Fagan.

Game 2: Marshall 6, USF 4

Mia Fung hit her first-career home run in the Bulls 6-4 loss to the Thundering Herd in the final game of the day.

Marshall took an early lead with a run apiece in the first and second inning before Fung's homer cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second.

Wyckoff registered her third triple of the season to drive in three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut Marshall's lead to 6-4.

Unfortunately, the Bulls couldn't overcome a four-run fourth inning by the Thundering Herd and dropped to 6-6 on the season.

The Bulls continue the USF Wilson DeMarini Tournament 12:15 p.m. Saturday against Dartmouth. Purchase tickets HERE.
