FORT WORTH, TEXAS, FEB. 20, 2015 – Olaya Garrido-Rivas and Olga Martinez picked up singles wins in No. 62 USF's 5-2 loss at No. 17 TCU on Friday night.
Garrido-Rivas posted up her second win over a ranked opponent this season by outlasting No. 76 Stefanie Tan, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6), in the top singles spot. The sophomore from Spain has six victories in dual matches this season.
Martinez registered a singles win in last week's victory at FGCU and her success continued Friday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The sophomore from Spain defeated Sofiko Kadzhaya, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), in the final singles match of the night.
With the victory, TCU (5-5) evened the all-time series with USF at 3-3 and improved to 2-0 at home this season. The Bulls (2-5) begin conference play Sunday in Dallas, where they'll take on SMU at 1 p.m.
Following the conference opener, the Bulls return to Tampa for a seven-match homestand that begins Saturday, March 7 against North Florida. The match is set for an 11 a.m. start and admission is free at the USF Varsity Courts.
