Bulls Split Saturday Doubleheader

TAMPA, FEB. 7, 2015 – The USF softball team split its Saturday doubleheader, falling to No. 8 Michigan before wrapping up the day with a convincing 9-1 win over Jacksonville.

The Bulls battled back to tie the game after falling behind 3-0 in the second inning to the eighth-ranked Wolverines, but we're unable to come away with the win in the first game of the day, dropping a tightly contested contest, 4-3.

D'Anna Devine (Morrisville, Pa.) led the Bulls at the plate against Michigan, going 2-for-3 with a run and her first RBI of the season. Kristen Wyckoff (Plant City, Fla.) also drove in a run in the loss.

USF dominated its second game of the evening, posting nine runs against Jacksonville (2-2), to improve to 3-1 on the season. Freshmen Astin Donovan (Guilford, Conn.), Mia Fung (Tampa, Fla.) and Kenya Yancy (Bradenton, Fla.) all recorded their first-career RBIs in the win.

“You go up and down the line, that's a pretty good class right there and I hope they realize that. They provide a lot of energy for us right now,” head coach Ken Eriksen said in regards to his talented freshmen.

Redshirt freshman pitcher Susan Wysocki also had a stellar performance, pitching four shutout innings while giving up only two hits to earn her first-career win in her first ever start.

The Bulls were aided by seven Jacksonville errors and scored more than six runs for the third time in four games this season.

“I thought all day we did a pretty good job with our approaches at the plate,” Eriksen said. “I thought we made some adjustments well from the Michigan game on.”

USF concludes play in the USF Softball Classic on Friday when they host the defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Florida Gators at 4 p.m. Purchase tickets HERE.
