TAMPA (March 20, 2015) – Under a clear blue sky, Olaya Garrido-Rivas won the battle on the premier court to clinch the lone point for the Bulls (2-11) in their 6-1 loss to Tulsa (11-7) at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.
Garrido-Rivas overcame a first set deficit followed by a series of tie-breaks as the matchup lasted nearly three hours. The sophomore from Spain won the match 4-6, 7-6 (10), 10-8. Laura Argente Escamilla came back after a tough first set loss to force a third set, but Tulsa's Renata Kuricova earned the win.
Tulsa pulled ahead after clinching the doubles point on courts one and three. The Garrido-Rivas/Juliana Cardoso duo came from behind but were unable to finish.
The Bulls rest up this weekend before they take on No. 26 Northwestern on Tuesday at 2 p.m. on the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
