TAMPA, MARCH 8, 2015 – Extending their winning streak to five, the No. 17 Bulls defeated George Washington on Sunday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
USF (9-4) started off strong against the Colonials (4-7) in doubles as the Roberto Cid-Ignacio Gonzales-Muniz tandem won without dropping a game. The duo of Sasha Gozun and Vadym Kalyuzhnyy followed up to secure the doubles point after their 6-3 win.
The Bulls' momentum continued into singles play, winning five first sets. Cid quickly upped the Bulls' score to 2-0 with consecutive 6-2 sets over Danil Zelenkov. Kalyuzhnyy captured the third singles point with 6-2 and 6-4 set victories over Cahit Kapukiran. Oliver Pramming earned the decisive fourth point for the Bulls' win, defeating Chris Reynolds 6-2, 6-4. Justin Roberts and Gozun each tallied points for the Bulls, finalizing the score at six.
Colonials' No. 3 Chris Fletcher registered the lone point for GWU as Ignacio Gonzales-Muniz dropped the tiebreaker 10-6.
USF returns to action as the Bulls host their Spring Break Tournament beginning on Friday. Admission is free at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
