BLACKSBURG, Va., MAY 9, 2015 – No. 18 USF booked the program's first trip to the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship Round of 16 with a 4-0 victory over host Virginia Tech on Saturday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

USF (21-6) will face No. 2 Baylor in the Round of 16 Thursday, May 14 at 8 p.m. at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.

"It was an amazing day for the guys and all the work they've put in," head coach Matt Hill said. "It's a huge day for the program as well. We push the envelope and try to show other teams we're a program that's going to be around for a little while."

USF seized the doubles point in its 4-0 win over Boise State on Friday and got the job done again in the second round against No. 15 Virginia Tech (20-5).

Roberto Cid and Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz clinched the doubles point against the Broncos and continued their hot play with an 8-3 win over Amerigo Contini and Jai Corbett in the third position.

Sasha Gozun and Vadym Kalyuzhnyy also won in doubles for the second straight day and put the Bulls on the scoreboard by outlasting Joao Monteiro and Edoardo Tessaro, 8-7 (9-7).

"Virginia Tech has very good doubles, especially at No. 1 and No. 2. I thought our guys did a great job of playing smart and competing really well throughout the doubles," Hill said.

Justin Roberts picked up a singles victory in USF's second straight American Athletic Conference title win and the freshman from Nassau, Bahamas continued to step up in NCAA play. Roberts spotted the Bulls a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Tessaro in the fifth singles position.

Kalyuzhnyy earned USF's first singles win against Boise State and the sophomore from Donetsk, Ukraine notched another huge point for the Bulls following Roberts' win. Kalyuzhnyy put USF in a position to advance to the next round with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Corbett in the sixth singles spot.

Action continued on four courts and Gozun made program history by clinching match point with an impressive 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory over No. 43 Andreas Bjerrehus in the second singles position.

"Our guys took it to another level in singles," Hill said. "They continue to impress the coaches on the big stages and in the big moments. They really enjoy it and elevate their game."
