DENVER, Colo., SEPT. 29, 2015 – No. 17 USF's four-game winning streak came to an end with a 1-0 loss at No. 8 Denver on Tuesday night.
Karsten Hanlin scored his second goal of the season in the 73rd minute and Denver extended its home winning streak to 21 games. The Pioneers (8-0-1) are off to their best start since the 1983 season and appeared at No. 7 in the RPI this week.
USF (6-3-0) lost for the first time since falling to then-No.17 Indiana on Sept. 26 at Notre Dame's Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament. Denver posted its seventh shutout of the season and has allowed just one goal in five home games.
American Goalkeeper of the Week Spasoje Stefanovic made the lone save in a game that featured only nine combined shots. Denver had a 5-4 edge in shots and got the goal it needed on Hanlin's free kick from 22 yards out late in the second half.
USF continues conference play 2 p.m. Saturday at Temple and wraps up a three-game road trip at Tulsa on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. The Bulls return to Corbett Stadium to host Cincinnati on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. Purchase tickets at USFBullsTix.com.
The men's soccer program has been one of the most successful on campus over the years, advancing to seven NCAA tournaments in the last eight seasons. The Bulls return 13 letterwinners and five starters from 2014 on top of bringing in the third-ranked signing class according to College Soccer News.
