Box Score MEMPHIS (Oct. 27, 2016)— Evelyne Viens continued to chase the USF single-season goal record, netting her 14th of the year in a 3-1 loss to Memphis Thursday night. The Bulls now sit at 11-3-2, 3-3-2 on the season.
Down 3-0, the Bulls would get on the board and avoid a shutout thanks to a late goal by Viens. In the 84th minute, Viens was fouled in the box, setting up a penalty kick which she perfectly placed as the Memphis keeper chose wrong, diving away from the ball. Viens is now just two goals away from tying the single-season record for goals at USF.
The Tigers struck in the third minute of the game off an early corner kick. Goalkeeper Kat Elliott punched the initial attempt out, but a header by Serena Dolan into the left side of the net gave the Tigers the lead.
Memphis would net their second goal in the first ten minutes on a header from Valerie Sanderson on a Tiger free kick. With just under a minute to go in the first half, the Tigers struck again as Sanderson went 1-on-1 with Elliott, slotting the ball just past her.
The Bulls will need a win on Sunday against Tulsa to secure a spot in the conference tournament.
