Nunn One-Hits Jayhawks in Complete Game Shutout

Box Score

TAMPA, FEB. 28, 2016 – Senior Erica Nunn had an outstanding outing in the circle and the Bulls recorded seven hits in a 6-0 win over the Kansas Jayhawks Sunday afternoon at the USF Softball Stadium.

Nunn retired 17 batters in a row between the second out of the first inning and the top of the seventh. She recorded six strikeouts and gave up just two walks in the complete game one-hitter. Nunn faced just three batters over the minimum in her 10th career complete game.

The Bulls got on the board first in the bottom of the second thanks to a Mia Fung RBI-double. Lee Ann Spivey led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sam Worrell. Fung then sent a 2-0 count deep to centerfield and was able to advance home on a throwing error by the Kansas second baseman.

USF tacked on another pair of runs in the third on a Spivey two-run home run. The senior is now just ten away from tying the USF career home run record and has homered in her last two games. Lauren Evans extended her on-base streak to seven games and her hitting streak to six games with a single, before coming home on Spivey's homer.

The Bulls threatened again in the fourth after using a bunt single and two walks to load the bases with one out. Evans drove in pinch-hitter Kassie Moeller with a sacrifice fly to deep left field. Spivey and Meredith Bissette each drew two-out walks with Bissette earning an RBI on her bases-loaded walk to make it 6-0 USF after four innings.

Fung and Spivey each had a 2-for-3 day at the plate, combining for three runs and three RBIs. Weber and Evans each recorded a hit and Evans picked up her ninth RBI in her last six games.

The Bulls will be back in action Wednesday, March 2, when they travel to Daytona, Fla. to take on Bethune-Cookman at 5 p.m.
