Bulls Push No. 14 Tulsa to the Brink, but Fall 4-3

TULSA, Okla. (Feb. 28, 2016) – In a back and forth match, the USF women's tennis team fell to No. 14 Tulsa, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The Bulls (2-5) started the afternoon behind as they were unable to win the doubles point. However, USF showed resiliency by battling back in singles play.

USF freshman Ana Roman Dominguez (Spain) put the Bulls on the board first and the tied the match at 1-1. Dominguez looked strong in singles play as she defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2. Junior Vera Bessonova (Moscow, Russia) secured USF's second point of the afternoon by defeating her opponent 7-5, 7-5.

Freshman Vanja Klaric (Serbia) earned the last point of the afternoon for the Bulls. Klaric trailed going into the second set, but fought back to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. The win moves Klaric to an impressive 5-0 in singles play this season.

With the match being tied 3-3, it all came down to the matchup on court two featuring USF's Olga Martinez (Barcelona, Spain). Martinez battled but came up just short as Tulsa clinched the victory.

The USF women's tennis team will be back in action Wednesday, March 2, as they come home to take on Seton Hall at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts at 12:00 p.m.. Admission is free to the public.
