TAMPA, FLA. MARCH 12, 2016 – The 16th-ranked USF men's tennis team continued their streak of only playing ranked teams, defeating No. 23 Penn State, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
No. 4 Roberto Cid clinched the match for the Bulls winning 6-4, 7-6 (4) on court one over Leonard Stakhovsky. Cid is now the winner of six straight matches and boasts an impressive 12-1 record, all coming at the premier spot.
On court three, Sasha Gozun cranked out a 7-5, 6-2 result, while Peter Bertran also put up a 7-5, 6-2 result on court four.
In doubles, Dominic Cotrone and Sasha Gozun paired up for the first time. The duo defeated David Kohan and Christian Lutschaunig, 6-3 on court one. At the No. 3 spot, Everth Dzib and Peter Bertran clinched the doules point, topping Constant De La Bassetiere and Aws Laaribi, 6-4.
USF will play a pair of matches on Sunday, March 13, to wrap up the Spring Break Tournament. The first match against UNC-Wilmington is set for 9 a.m., with a match against Troy set for 3:30 p.m. USF will also host Ohio State on Thursday, March 17, at 3 p.m.
