TAMPA (March 12, 2016) – The USF women's tennis team earned its fourth straight victory Saturday by defeating conference foe SMU, 4-2, at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Bulls (6-5) continued their strong doubles play and once again secured the doubles point to take an early 1-0. USF tandem of Vera Bessonova (Moscow, Russia) and Olga Martinez (Barcelona, Spain) mounted an impressive comeback to win 7-5 on court one. Jessica Cortes Chaves and Juliana Cardoso looked strong and defeated their opponents, 6-4.
Due to an injury to Vanja Klaric (Serbia) in doubles, freshman Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) moved in to the sixth singles spot for USF and secured the second point of the afternoon. Dzenga looked sharp and defeated her opponent, 6-1, 6-3. Cardoso (Descalvado, Brazil) quickly secured the third point and defeated her opponent in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
USF took an early 3-0 lead but SMU fought back with two singles wins to tighten the match at 3-2. After dropping the first set, Bulls freshman Ana Roman Dominguez (Spain) fought back to complete a three set victory. Dominguez defeated her opponent, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, to clinch the win for USF.
