Tampa, Fla. (March 13, 2016) -- The University of South Florida wrapped up the second annual Spring Break Tournament on Sunday with victories over No. 65 UNC-Wilmington and Troy. Going undefeated on the weekend, the Bulls have won the tournament in back-to-back years. No. 4 Roberto Cid and Sasha Gozun swept the weekend in the singles competiton, winning three matches a piece.
No. 16 USF 4, Troy 1
Sasha Gozun clinched another home match for the Bulls. He controlled the first set 6-1 over previously undefeated Pablo Moreno, and followed up with a second set tiebreaker, in which Gozun took, 7-6 (3).
"There was a turning point for him about two, three weeks ago when we had a team meeting." head coach Matt Hill said. "The guys put some commitments out there to each other and I think Sasha has been doing a great job of that, with the commitment he gave to the team. Working harder in the gym and fitness sessions, eating better, and it's paying off, it's making a huge difference. He's got a lot more confidence out there, he's moving better and the results show."
Peter Bertran clinched his 6-2, 6-2 win over Vaclav Slezak with an ace on court four. No. 4 Roberto Cid continued his streak of eight straight victories to improve to 14-1. Cid defeated Daniel Bustamente, 6-3, 6-2, in the premier position.
Everth Dzib and Peter Bertran dominated Andy Lau and Andres Torres on court three, 6-0. On court one, Dominic Cotrone and Sasha Gozun clinched the doubles victory for the Bulls with a 6-2 result.

Clinching back-to-back matches for the Bulls, No. 4 Roberto Cid battled against Christaan Van Der Burgh on court one. The first set was hard-fought, 6-4, followed by a decisive second set, 6-3. The seventh straight victory for Cid advanced his record to 13-1.
No. 50 Dominic Cotrone put together a dominating performance over Javier Restrepo, 6-0, 6-1. It was his fourth straight-set victory of the season. Sasha Gozun rallied back in the first set to win, 6-4, before controlling the second set, 6-2, to take the match.
The Bulls clinched the doubles point in a timely fashion, Dominic Cotrone and Sasha Gozun dominated, 6-1, on court one. Paired for the first time, Roberto Cid and Sebastien Butler won, 6-2, on court two. When the third match was suspended, Everth Dzib and Peter Bertran were tied at 3-3 with Taylor Cramer and Gianlucca Massa.
The Bulls welcome second-ranked Ohio State to the Varsity Tennis Courts on Thursday, March 17 at 3 p.m.
"They're one of the best programs in the country, have been for the last 10-15 years," Hill said. "Incredibily well coached, super talented; we couldn't be more excited to have them here in Tampa. The guys are going to get up for that, they always do. They love a big stage and they love a big name, it's going to be a fun day."
