TAMPA, FLA. (March 25, 2016) – The 17th-ranked University of South Florida men's tennis team kicked off this weekend's quad tournament with a 4-0 victory over No. 53 Pepperdine. Despite two lengthy rain delays, the Bulls never slowed down as they picked up the shutout victory.
No. 5 Roberto Cid clinched the match at the No. 1 spot with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Guilherme Hadlich. Winning the last 9 out of 10 matches, Cid moved to 15-2 on the season.
Peter Bertran dominated on court four, where he has won four straight, with a 6-1, 6-1 result. Sasha Gozun trailed in both sets at the No. 3 spot, but ultimately prevailed, 6-4, 6-4, over Stefan Menichella.
When claiming the doubles point, the Bulls are 10-2 in competition. Dominic Cotrone and Peter Bertran were paired on court one, clinching the doubles point with a 6-4 result over No. 37 Hadlich and Gabriel Sidney. Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz and Roberto Cid took control of court three with a 6-0 victory.
USF will compete at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 26 against VCU at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. The matchup with UNF was cancelled due to the weather forecast.
