TAMPA, FLA. (March 26, 2016) – The 17th-ranked University of South Florida men's tennis team defeated VCU, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Sasha Gozun clinched the match for the Bulls on court two, 7-6 (1), 6-2. Winner of seven straight matches, Gozun's record improves to 11-6.
No. 37 Dominic Cotrone played in the premier position for the first time this season. He controlled the match against Michal Voscek, 6-2, 6-2. On court four, Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz dominated Daryl Monfils, 6-2, 6-0. His record moves to 6-3 on the year.
In doubles, Sasha Gozun and Vadym Kalyuzhnyy set the tone with a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 position. The duo has played in nine competitions, garnering six wins throughout the process. On court one, Dominic Cotrone and Peter Bertran won their second consecutive match as a pairing, 6-3, over Vitor Lima and Daryl Monfils.
The Bulls welcome No. 14 Oklahoma, No. 36 SMU and UCF to the USF Varsity Tennis Courts, April 1-2. USF will face the Sooners at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 1.
