TAMPA (March 27, 2016) – The USF women's tennis team extended its winning streak to 10 Sunday afternoon as they defeated conference opponent Tulane, 4-0, at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. The win improves USF to 3-1 in conference play this season.
The Bulls (12-5) earned the first point of the afternoon by taking two of the three doubles matches. Juniors Vera Bessonova (Moscow, Russia) and Olga Martinez (Barcelona, Spain) overcame an early deficit to win 6-3 in the premiere doubles spot for the Bulls.
It didn't take long for USF to capture its first singles point as freshman Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) looked sharp in a 6-4, 6-2 win on court six. The freshman has been impressive in her first season compiling an 8-4 record and winning her last six singles matches.
Sophomore Juliana Cardoso (Descalvado, Brazil) would quickly follow with a 6-4, 6-2 win of her own on court six to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead. With her win on Sunday, Cardoso has won her last nine singles matches and is 11-3 on the season.
The match of the day was on court three featuring USF freshman Ana Roman Dominguez (Spain). Dominguez clinched the match for the Bulls as she came back from a first set deficit to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Dominguez now ranks second on the team with nine wins.
