Deland, Fla. (April 17, 2016) – The University of South Florida women's tennis team defeated Stetson, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in the regular season finale.
The No. 56 Bulls (15-6) started off with an early lead by picking up the doubles point. The USF tandem of Chloe Murphy (England) and Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) notched a win on court three, while Juliana Cardoso (Descalvado, Brazil) and Jessica Cortes Chaves (Monterrey, Mexico) took court two in doubles play.
Junior Olga Martinez (Barcelona, Spain) struck first in singles play for USF as she defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0 on court four. Bulls freshman Dzenga followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court six to push the lead to 3-0.
Winner of her last eight matches, Vera Bessonova (Moscow, Russia), defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-4 on court two for USF. Freshman Ana Roman Dominguez (Spain) picked up her 11th win of the season with a 6-0, 7-5 victory on court three.
Bulls freshman Vanja Klaric (Serbia) captured a big 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (7-0) comeback victory on court five. Playing out of the premiere spot, Cortes Chaves capped off the match with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) win for the Bulls.
The Bulls are back in action next week as they head to Memphis for the American Athletic Conference Championship.
