Bulls Continue Success on Pro Circuit

TAMPA (June 23, 2016)--Bulls tennis players have continued to post strong results in professional circuit and open prize money events around the world this summer. Recent graduates Roberto Cid and Dominic Cotrone  both reached advanced rounds in $10,000 Futures Tour events for the second consecutive week while rising senior Sasha Gozun won two titles at an open prize money event in Sarasota last week.

Playing in Barranquilla, Columbia, Cid has won four consecutive matches (two in qualifying rounds) to reach the quarterfinals. This is on the heels of a quarterfinal appearance in last week's $10,000 event in Cartagena. Cid, who earned a No. 2 college national ranking in 2016, defeated the world's No. 563 player Felipe Mantilla of Columbia 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 Wednesday. The Dominican Republic native achieved a world ranking of 887 in limited professional action last year but is expected to earn a new career high ranking following these recent tournaments.

Cotrone is earning equal success in doubles as he and partner Robert Galloway are in the semifinals of a $10,000 Futures Tour event in Rochester, NY. Cotrone already owns two doubles titles on the professional circuit.

Gozun defeated UNC standout Brayden Schnur on  route to his title in Sarasota. Schnur is a three-time collegiate All-American who has been ranked as high as 456 in the ATP World Tour rankings. He then paired with USF doubles partner Vadym Kalyuzhnyy to win the doubles tournament. Both players will be back in action at another open prize money event in Bradenton this weekend.

Last week, rising junior Peter Bertran earned his first career ATP points with two wins in the main draw of the $10,000 Futures Tour event in Cartagena. Bertran posted the best dual match record on the Bulls team last year, 17-5, playing mostly out of the No. 4 spot. That same week in Buffalo, rising junior Justin Roberts won three qualification matches before earning tour points with a main draw win.
