Bulls Post First Win of the Season Against DePaul

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Jan. 29, 2017) – After ending their first day in Gainesville, Fla., with a tough loss, the University of South Florida women's tennis team rebounded with a 4-2 victory over the Blue Demons to finish off the ITA Kick-Off weekend.

After the Bulls won the doubles point, DePaul answered with a singles win in the No. 2 spot where Keisha Clousing and Nicole Dzenga went to three sets (6-1, 2-6, 6-2). In the No. 1 spot, sophomore Ana Roman Dominguez dropped the first set, 1-6, but rallied to take the next two sets, 6-2, 6-2, against #87 Yuliya Shupenia.

Juliana Cardoso and Brooke Lashway also went to three set wins facing DePaul's Marina Cozac and Ana Vladutu, respectively. In the No. 4 spot, Jessica Cortes Chaves dropped the match in straight sets (7-6, 6-2). Olga Martinez went unfinished in the No. 3 spot when Lashway clinched the match.

In doubles play, Cardoso and Olga Martinez struck first for the Bulls notching a 6-4 win to put the Bulls ahead. Roman Dominguez and Lashway followed suit, clinching the match 6-3.

USF heads home to host Southern Miss and Texas Tech in the home opening weekend, Feb. 3 and Feb. 5.
