GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Jan. 29, 2017) – On day two of the ITA Kick-Off weekend the University of South Florida men's tennis team posted a 6-1 victory against UNCW.
The Bulls took the singles courts with a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point, and senior Vadym Kalyuzhnyy struck first in the No. 5 spot with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Michael Copeland.
No. 77 Peter Bertran, Justin Roberts, and Alberto Barroso-Campos all followed suit taking their matches in straight sets to seal the victory for the Bulls. Freshmen Pierre Luquet topped Daniel Groom 7-6, 6-3 and Nils Heimer fell (3-6, 6-4, 6-3).
In doubles play, Kalyuzhnyy and Sasha Gozun made quick work of UNCW's Gabriel Hocevar and Agustin Savarino with a 6-1 rout. The Seahawks answered on court two, where Josh Hublitz and Leon Back handed Bertran and Roberts a 6-2 loss. The Bulls held their ground as Barroso-Campos and Jakub Wojcik clinched the doubles point (6-4).
