GAME ONE: USF 10, BINGHAMTON 0
Hannah Parker carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and the offense was clicking on all cylinders as the Bulls topped Binghamton, 10-0, in their first game of the day.
The Bulls used two multi-run innings to propel themselves to the win. USF plated four runs in the second, three in the third, and capped the game with three in the seventh.
USF used three bunt singles and a few defensive miscues from the Bearcats to take a 4-0 lead in the second. Sam Worrell led off the inning with a single and moved to third on a pair of groundouts before scoring on a bunt single from Bruni.
Bruni's bunt single and a throwing error allowed Worrell to score and Morgan Gross, who reached on a hit by pitch, to advance to third base.
Kristen Wyckoff followed with a bunt single of her own, scoring Bruni and Gross, as a throwing error once again plagued the Bearcats. Donovan laid down the Bulls' third bunt single in a row, scoring Wyckoff on yet another throwing error.
In the third, USF plated three runs off the bats of Wyckoff and Brooke Hartman. Hartman, starting her first game as a Bull, plated a run on an RBI fielder's choice. Morgan Gross tallied her first career hit and Bruni singled to load the bases for Wyckoff.
A fielding error by the Bearcats third baseman would plate two runs, pushing the Bulls' lead to 7-0.
USF would plate three more runs in the seventh on another defensive miscue and an RBI single from Donovan.
GAME TWO: JMU 5, USF 0
A four-run fourth would put USF in a 5-0 hole it just couldn't climb out of as the Bulls fell to No. 14 James Madison in the second game of the evening.
After two scoreless innings, the Dukes would take a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI single. In the fourth, a grand slam would put JMU up 5-0, and be all the run insurance it needed.
Cheyenne Eggens took the loss, throwing 3.2 innings and allowing four runs (one earned). Eggens is 1-1 on the season, and struck out three batters while allowing just one walk in the outing.
USF returns to Clearwater on Saturday, Feb. 18, for another doubleheader. The Bulls will take on Hofstra at 4 p.m., followed by Okahoma State at 6:15 p.m., at the Eddie C. Moore complex.
