No. 23 Bulls Shut Out Eastern Michigan

Box Score

TAMPA (Feb. 23, 2017) – The USF softball team kept to their winning ways, shutting out Eastern Michigan (3-4), 4-0, Thursday afternoon.

Rain pushed the game from its original Wednesday night slot to Thursday afternoon, but the Bulls wouldn't let the change affect them.

USF (7-3) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning. Morgan Gross and Cassidy Boyle led off with back-to-back singles, and AnaMarie Bruni took a pitch to the back to load the bases with no outs. A deep fly ball from Kristen Wyckoff plated Gross, putting the Bulls ahead.

In the third, USF plated three runs on three extra-base hits, falling just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle as a team. With one out, Hannah Parker walked and scored on a Sam Worrell triple. Gross would record her second hit of the game, an RBI double, to score Worrell before coming home on a double from Boyle.

Cheyenne Eggens picked up her third win of the year, throwing four scoreless innings and allowing just three hits. Eggens picked up a career-high six strikeouts and now has ten wins in her career.
