
Bulls Gain Experience at Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., FEB. 25, 2017 – The University of South Florida track and field team gained valuable experience at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
On the final day of the two-day event, sophomore Raekwon Scott (DeLand, Fla.) finished fourth in the heptathlon. His 5,197 points was the second most in program history and a new personal best. The meet served as his first championship heptathlon.
Senior Khadeeja Dooling (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) also set a personal record by completing the 60m hurdles in 8.56 seconds.

- The Bulls recorded eight, top 10 marks in program history during the two-day event.

“We competed against some very good talent this weekend. We compete in one of the toughest track and field conferences in America. Our team made great strides over the course of this indoor season, however there is still much work to be done with our very young talented group we have here at USF.”

“They are starting to learn there is a high expectation and we expect everyone's contribution to this program and most important how to become one unit which is to support each other and compete on a very big stage.
Notables
- In the 60m hurdles, senior Paul Barrett (Tampa) finished fourth (8.19) and Scott completed the event in seventh (8.55).
- Freshman Curtis Thomas (Auburndale, Fla.) finished sixth in the 60m dash (6.88).
- Scott earned eighth in the high jump (6-5.5).
- The men's team finished in 7th as the women's team finished in 11th.
Next Up
USF begins the outdoor track and field season when they host the Bulls Invitational on March 17 and 18.
About USF Track and Field
Led by 11th-year head coach Warren Bye, the USF track and field team has produced 21 All-Americans (eight men, 13 women) since 2000 and at least one All-American in nine of the last 10 years. Recent graduate Matthew O'Neal is USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. The Bulls return all-conference performer David Akins (pole vault) and Michael Babinec (steeplechase), as well as NCAA qualifier Bernicia Holifield (hammer throw). USF hosts the Bulls Invitational March 17-18 and the USF Invitational April 21-22. USF is home to the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary.
