Box Score TAMPA, APRIL 26, 2017 – The University of South Florida baseball team dropped a 6-0 matchup to Stetson on Wednesday.
It was a real pitcher's duel between the Bulls (32-9, 7-5 American) and the Hatters (19-25, 8-4 ASUN) for the first four innings, as no side was able to score.
Stetson broke through in the fifth with a pair of runs. The Hatters pulled away with three more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth.
The Bulls put a pair of baserunners aboard in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings but the Stetson arms worked out of each jam to earn the midweek win.
Key Stats
- Sophomore Garrett Zech (Naples, Fla.) and redshirt-junior Andres Leal (Tampa) each went 2-for-4 to lead the Bulls.
- Freshman D.J. Roberts (Jacksonville, Fla.) pitched 4.0 innings in his third start against the Hatters this year. He did not allow a run.
- Freshman Carson Ragsdale (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) pitched the last 1.1 innings, gave up just one hit and tallying four strikeouts.
Notables
- The Hatters take a slim 85-84 lead in the all-time series between the two schools.
- Because Stetson does not play this weekend, it started their regular Friday pitcher in Brooks Wilson and their Saturday arm, Jack Perkins, tossed the final four innings.
- This is was just the first time this year the Bulls were held scoreless.
