TAMPA, FEB. 8, 2018 – The USF track and field team is in action for the second straight weekend, taking part in the Samford Invitational in Birmingham, Ala. on Friday. The Bulls will join 10 other teams in the one-day event.

The event begins at 10 a.m. with the women's weight throw and concludes at 4 p.m. with the men's 4x400 meter relay. The Bulls are taking 43 student-athletes to Birmingham and will compete in 14 different events through the course of the day.

The Samford Invitational is the final regular season indoor meet for USF before the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24. The conference championships will also be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex, the site of this weekend's meet. To date, the Bulls have competed in three previous indoor meets, including last weekend's Akron Invitational.

Recapping the Akron Invitational
After a weekend off, the full USF squad resumed competition in Akron, Ohio last weekend. The Bulls had 44 student-athletes competing in the two-day event. USF finished the event with four event wins and 19 top-five finishes.

Senior David Akins (Orlando, Fla.) won the pole vault on day 1 of the event, clearing a height of 16-8.75, which was the second-best vault of the indoor season for the Bulls.

Junior D'angelo Ennis (Kingston, Jamaica) took home his second event win of the season, taking the men's triple jump with a distance of 49-5.00. That mark ranks fourth on the USF all-time indoor chart.

Freshman Imani Carmouche (Mt. Zion, Ga.) took first in the women's high jump blue division with a mark of 5-7. Kirby Powers finished second in the event at 5-3.

The fourth event win of the weekend came from senior Kaytlyn Gill (Charlotte, N.C.), who took the women's triple jump with a mark of 38-8.25. The performance ranks 10^th in USF indoor history.

About USF Track and Field
Led by 13th-year head coach Warren Bye, the USF track and field team has produced 22 All-America selections since 2008 and at least one All-American in nine of the last 10 years. 2016 graduate Matthew O'Neal is USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. USF has posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). The Bulls are home to the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary.
