USF Men's Soccer's Oscar Resano Named AAC Offensive Player of the Week; Sergio Pineros-Mayorga Earns Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

October 31, 2022

TAMPA (Oct. 31, 2022) – University of South Florida men's soccer standout Oscar Resano was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 28. In addition, Sergio Pineros-Mayorga was named to The American Weekly Honor Roll. The tandem helped the Bulls to a 2-0 record, last week, which included a thrilling 2-1 win at No. 22/14 Charlotte and a commanding 2-0 victory over Memphis in the regular season home finale on Oct. 28.

Resano, a sophomore from Mexico City, played a significant role in the Bulls' success last week. He had two shots on the week both coming on goal and both coming in the win over the 49ers and scored the game-winning goal at Charlotte in a thriller taking a throw-in from teammate Brian Schaefer and heading it into the goal with four seconds remaining in the match. The game-winner was the first of his career.

Resano currently leads the Bulls in goals scored with four and is tied for first in points with eight.

Pineros-Mayorga also played a large part in South Florida's success. The senior from Tampa played 178 of a possible 180 minutes in the two matches, 90 minutes against Charlotte and 88 minutes against the Tigers, and recorded one shot. That shot, however, led to his first career goal – an insurance goal – in the win over Memphis.

Was also a significant piece of the South Florida backline that logged its third shutout of the season.

South Florida, currently 5-5-4 on the year and 4-1-3 in The American, is tied for third in the conference standings with SMU – both with 15 points apiece – just one point behind the league leaders Tulsa and FIU who both have 16 points. The Bulls will close out the regular season on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the War on I-4 at Central Florida.
