TAMPA (September 27, 2022) The University of South Florida women's tennis team kicked off its 2022 Fall campaign this past weekend in the annual Bedford Cup and recorded solid showings in its first time out on the courts this season. The Bulls had multiple players advance to at least the semifinal and final rounds in both doubles and singles during the three-day event at Florida Gulf Coast University's Tennis Complex in Fort Myers, Sept. 23-25.

With the fall season traditionally focused on individual results, the Bulls faced some of the top programs and competition in the Southeast.

2022 American Athletic Conference All-Conference selection, Grace Schumacher, won the Flight A Consolation Draw with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Anais Gabriel of Stetson. Schumacher advanced to the final after a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 quarterfinal win over Ida Ferding of Florida Gulf Coast in the quarterfinals and a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 win over Sophie Williams of Florida.

Mokhtari's run to the finals ended in the semis falling in a thriller, 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 to Magdalena Hedrzak of Stetson.

In double, playing in their first competitive match as a tandem, Margriet Timmermans and Ireland Simme advanced to the semifinals in, defeating Emma Shelton and Sophia Williams of Florida, 6-2, before taking down Florida Atlantic's Carla Galmiche and Tamara Racine, 6-3. The duo fell in the semifinals, 6-0, to Jasmin Makela and Isabel Oliveira of North Florida but showed promise for the 2022-23 season.
