TAMPA (January 13, 2023) – The University of South Florida women's basketball team closes out its short two-game home stand on Saturday when it faces Tulane at the Yuengling Center. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. (ESPN+). The meeting with the Green Wave will mark the second between the two schools since Dec. 30 when the Bulls defeated Tulane, 69-61, in New Orleans.
 
The Bulls come into Saturday's game 15-4 overall and 4-0 in the American Athletic Conference and look for their sixth straight win and their ninth victory in their last 11 games. The Green and Gold are also looking to improve their home record to 10-0.
 
Elena Tsineke, who has been one of the hottest players in The American over the last five games, averaging 21.0 points per contest, is averaging a conference-best 17.4 points per game on the year. Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu is second netting 16.3 points per outing after her 12-point, 15-rebound effort against Memphis on Wednesday night. Fankam Mendjiadeu is also leading the Bulls and The American – and is sixth in the nation – in rebounds per game grabbing 11.9 boards per contest.
 
Sammie Puisis rounds out South Florida's double-figure scorers averaging 15.8 points per game. Puisis, a Florida State transfer, and former McDonald's All-American is the top three-point shooter in Division I, leading the nation in three-point field goals made (57) and attempted (155).
 
Aerial Wilson is second in the conference in assists (84) and assists per game (4.4).
 
Tulane comes into its game against the Bulls with an 11-6 record and a 1-3 mark in The American following its 76-53 win over Wichita State on Wednesday night.
 
Marta Galic leads three players in double figures, averaging 13.6 points per game, and is followed by Dynah Jones and Kyren Whittington who are netting 12.3 and 11.8 points, respectively. Rachel Hakes is just shy of double-figure scoring, netting 9.8 points per game.
 
Galic is also leading Tulane on the glass, grabbing 7.6 rebounds per game.
 
Following its meeting with Tulane, South Florida will play three of its next four on the road beginning at Houston on Jan. 18 (8 p.m. ET, ESPN+).
 
The Bulls will return to the Yuengling Center on Jan. 22 for the first edition of the 2022-23 War on I-4 against Central Florida (2 p.m., ESPNU) before heading out for back-to-back road games at Tulsa on Jan. 25 (5 p.m. ET, ESPNU) at Memphis on Jan. 28 (3 p.m. ET, ESPN+).

South Florida recorded its 10th 20-win season during the 2021-22 campaign while playing in its sixth American Athletic Conference championship game in its nine years in the conference. The Bulls achieved their highest national ranking of the season when it checked in at No. 13 in the Nov. 30 Associated Press Top 25 Poll, and advanced to their seventh NCAA Tournament appearance in the last nine years.
 
USF has made 17 postseason tournament appearances and had eight NCAA Tournament berths in head coach Jose Fernandez's 22 seasons. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fernandez has guided USF to 10 20-win seasons, two WNIT final four appearances, the 2009 WNIT championship, and has won over 400 career games. Fernandez was named a finalist for the WBCA and semifinalist for the Naismith National Coach of the Year Awards. He was also tabbed the 2021 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the 2020-21 campaign.
 
In 2021-22, the Bulls had three players recognized by The American for impressive seasons, including Elena Tsineke (All-Conference First Team), Bethy Mununga (All-Conference Second Team) and Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu (All-Conference Second Team).
 
In addition, Tsineke and Mununga were named to the American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team.
