*Record entering the weekend

TAMPA (Jan. 18, 2023) - The University of South Florida's men's tennis team will see three different opponents in the span of three days. They kick off play with a Friday evening match in Fort Myers against Florida Gulf Coast University. Then, on Sunday, they will have their home opener against Georgia State and Stetson.

The Bulls enter the FGCU match with a 0-3 record. After a tough showing in Boca Raton this past weekend, they hope to get a win under their belt.

Their first match of the season, against Rice, came down to a tiebreaker between Rice's Yasha Zemel and No. 67 Alvin Tudorica. Despite strong performances all around, the Green and Gold could not secure the win. The meetings between Rice and FAU both ended with 0-4 losses.

A look at the FGCU Eagles
The Eagles enter the matchup with the Bulls after two dominating wins against Southern Mississippi and Bucknell. They finished their 2021-22 season with a 15-7 record. After defeating No. 4 seed North Florida in the ASUN Semifinals they fell to No. 3 seed Liberty in the championship, 2-4.

Despite a smaller squad compared to last season, all eight current players are returnees.

A look at the Georgia State Panthers
Georgia State will have its first match of the season against Stetson Friday, Jan. 20 in DeLand, Florida.

The 2022-23 season will mark the Panther's first season under the guidance of head coach, James Wilson. Prior to his role with GSU, he was with the USF men's tennis program for three seasons. Last year, the Panthers finished 17-8, including a 4-3 win over the Bulls. They would also be crowned champions of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

A look at the Stetson Hatters
Stetson kicked off its spring season with a victory against Florida Southern on Jan. 14. Out of an eight-person squad, only three return from their 2021-22 11-10 season.

The last time the Bulls saw the Hatters was February 8, 2020. All five matchups, dating back from 2007, between the two teams have resulted in wins for the Green and Gold.
