Tampa, Fla. (Jan. 22, 2023) – The University of South Florida men's tennis team took full advantage of their doubleheader on Sunday and finished the day with two wins.
 
After the Georgia State win head coach Ashley Fisher talked about the keys to winning the match. "[They've] been willing to work hard and face the adversity that came. We have faced a lot this season. We have dropped our first three matches on the road." He would go on to say, "but the boys are slowly coming together, getting more comfortable around each other."

The Bulls began with a strong start in doubles. Bruno Oliveira and Thomas Pavlekovich-Smith quickly claimed the victory on court one against Diogo Morais and Diego Padilha, 6-3. A win by the same score by No. 67 Alvin Tudorica and Samuel Frizelle would soon follow on court three.
 
With the Bulls leading 1-0, No. 69 Davide Tortora entered singles play ready to win. By noon, him and Pavlekovich-Smith claimed both took their courts in a commanding fashion.
 
Erik Grevelius won his first set, 6-2. Things got close in the second set. At one point he was down 3-4. But, keeping the pattern of his other teammates who had previously secured wins, he was able to battle back and earn three straight games. This would get the Green and Gold the fourth point needed to win the meeting.
 
Despite clutching the fourth point, the Green and Gold played on. Elijah Cham's first set against Edward Thymes on court six was a marathon. His first set ended in a hard-fought victory, 6-6 (13-11). His second set was less of a thriller. After capturing four straight points, he had to battle for the last two, but eventually topped his opponent, 6-2.

Stetson
South Florida would carry their momentum through the day. Tortora and Grevilus would find success in doubles for the second time. They would go three games before Stetson challenged them on the board.
 
Palvekovich-Smith and Oliveira would also follow suit and ultimately won the doubles point for the Bulls.
 
Stetson's Ervin Haris Eminefendic eliminated the chances of the Bulls sweeping another team by capturing a win against Bruno Oliveira, 6-2, 6-0. However, a win from Tortora would put South Florida back on top.
 
Tom Pisane also contributed to the team's success. By exuding command on the court he would win both sets 6-3 against Stetson's Alexander Hillhouse. It would be freshmen Elijah Cham's ethic that would secure the second victory of the day for the Bulls.
