Grevelius and Tudorica compete at ITA All-American; Bulls at UCF Hidden Duals

The Bulls opened the month of October with two separate events.

TAMPA (October 11, 2023) – The University of South Florida men's tennis team continued its action-packed fall slate with competition at the start of October. No. 24 Erik Grevelius and Alvin Tudorica competed at the ITA All-American from September 30-October 8 while the rest of the USF Bulls participated at the UCF Hidden Duals on October 6-8.

ITA All-American

Hosted in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Grevelius and Tudorica competed as a doubles team and in singles competition as well. The duo opened the fall season ranked No. 24 by the ITA.

As a team, Grevelius and Tudorica began in the main draw (round of 32) and dropped a 3-6, 6-2, 8-10 match to the University of Illinois. The duo bounced back in the consolation bracket with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Gonzaga. The Bulls advanced to the consolation semifinals after an injury withdrawal and posted a 6-1, 4-6, 10-5 win over Utah before falling in the finals by a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-10 to Harvard.

In singles play, Tudorica won his first match in the qualifying round over Columbia by a count of 6-4, 6-3. He dropped his second tilt 2-6, 2-6 to Illinois. Grevelius began the qualifying round with a 6(2)-7(2), 0-6 setback to a Tulane foe but picked up a 6-2, 6-1 triumph in the consolation bracket against Oral Roberts.

UCF Hidden Duals

The action in Orlando was highlighted by Bruno Oliveira and Tom Pavlekovich-Smith winning the doubles "A" draw. The pair began with a 7-5 win over Stetson, posted a 6-4 victory over UCF and claimed the tournament win with a 7-6(3) triumph over Kennesaw State.

Augustin Cuellar and Ben Hudson came up just one win shy of winning the doubles "B" draw title. The duo began with a 7-5 win over FGCU and advanced to the semifinals with a 6-3 victory over UCF before falling in the finals to UNF by a count of 4-6.

Oliveira and Elijah Cham each competed in the singles "A" draw, while Cuellar, Hudson, Pavlekovich-Smith and Tom Pisane saw action in the "B" draw.

Up Next

The Bulls open play at the ITA Southeast Regionals which begin on Thursday, Oct. 12 and run through Monday, Oct. 16. Georgia Tech is hosting the event in Atlanta, Georgia.
