Bulls head to Deland for Clash With Stetson on Tuesday Night

TAMPA, Fla. (October 16, 2023) – The University of South Florida men's soccer (3-7-1, 1-3-1 AAC) heads to Deland, Fla. for showdown with Stetson (5-4-4, 2-1-2 ASUN) at the Stetson Athletic Training Complex on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. and the match will air live on ESPN+.
 
SETTING THE STAGE
The Bulls have won, lost, and tied their last three matchups. Jalen Anderson leads USF with 5 goals on the year and Ajmeer Spengler has a team best five assists. The Hatters have also won, lost and tied their last three outings. In their last showing, Stetson took Central Arkansas to a 1-1 draw this past Saturday.
 
SOUTH FLORIDA-STETSON SERIES
Tuesday night's meeting will be he 35th clash between the Bulls and Hatters, which spans back to 1965. USF is looking for its 29th win in the series, and ninth in Hatters territory, In the last clash, South Florida fell to Stetson, 3-2 at home (Oct.. 12, 2022).
 
LAST TIME OUT
South Florida and Temple finished the match in a 1-1 draw on Saturday (Oct. 14) afternoon. Nearly eight minutes into match play, Temple's Juan Zepeda scored his second goal of the season off the foot of Elias Betancourt. It was a back-and-forth battle for the remainder of the opening stanza. The Bulls eventually countered, as 65 seconds after returning from the break Pedro Faife (46') scored his first goal of the season. USF attempted to seal the deal in the second half, as the team took 12-of-17 total shots throughout the back-half.

SCOUTING THE HATTERS
Luis Lara paces Stetson with a team leading eight goals on the year. Afonso Conde has a program best four assists across the season.
 
A LOOK AHEAD
South Florida returns to Corbett for its second to last home match of the regu- lar season, as the Bulls will face UAB on Saturday (Oct. 21). The game will be the program's Alumni & International night. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the match can be streamed on ESPN+.
 
USF ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Alumni Jeff Attinella has been selected as a member of the 2023 USF Athletics Hall of Fame Class and will be inducted on Thurs., Nov. 9. Attinella is one of two student-athletes to receive that honor in USF men's soccer history. An NSCAA First-Team All-American goalkeeper (2009), a three-time All-Region selection, and three-time Big East All-Conference honoree, earning first-team honors in both in 2009, Attinella played on four NCAA Tournament Teams and helped lead the 2007 team to the NCAA Sweet 16 and the 2008 team to the NCAA Elite Eight.

USF Men's Soccer competed in the school's first-ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3.
