TAMPA (October 17, 2023) – The University of South Florida men's tennis team competed at the ITA Southeast Regional from October 12-16 and saw Alvin Tudorica finish as the runner-up in singles action which qualified him for the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego on November 1-5. The ITA Southeast Region is among the toughest in the country with the likes of Florida, Florida State, Miami, Georgia and Georgia Tech grouped with South Florida.Â
Tudorica's run to the championship match began on Friday, October 13 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lucas Olivier from Stetson. On Saturday, he toppled Joao Graca of FAU in a grueling match by scores of 7(9)-6(7), 6(8)-7(10), 6-4. He closed the day with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 triumph over the No. 6-seed Jamie Connel (No. 102 nationally) in the round of 16 to cap an eight-hour day of competition on the courts.Â
Tudorica continued his winning ways on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over UCF's Mehdi Benchakroun. Tudorica earned his spot in the championship on Monday with a 6-4, 6-4 semifinals win over the No. 7-seed Martin Katz (No. 56 nationally) from Miami before falling in the finals to the No. 9-seed by scores of 6(6)-7(8), 1-6.
Tudorica and teammate Erik Grevelius, ranked No. 24 by the ITA in the preseason, also advanced to the semifinals in doubles play. The duo were 8-2 winners in the opening round and 8-4 winners in round two, dispatching of host Georgia Tech and Florida State, respectively. The Bulls then earned an 8-2 win over FGCU in the quarterfinals before falling 4-6, 3-6 in the semifinals.
In other singles action, Grevelius, Tom Pisane and Ben Hudson each posted wins in the round of 32. Pisane ultimately finished in the round of 16 of the consolation bracket.

The Bulls will wrap up their collective Fall slate at the ITF Pro Futures beginning on Monday, October 23 in Tallahassee. Following that event, Tudorica will head to San Diego for the ITA National Fall Championships on Nov. 1-5.
