TAMPA, Fla. (November 21, 2023) – The University of South Florida men's basketball team remains inside the friendly confines of the Yuengling Center for a Wednesday contest with Maine. The Bulls and Black Bears are slated for a 7 p.m. tip on ESPN+.
South Florida enters Wednesday with a 2-1 record, while Maine is 3-3.
Concessions will be offering a turkey cranberry wrap. USF alumni can purchase tickets at a discounted rate for Wednesday's game.
Bulls at a Glance
Chris Youngblood has a team-best 15.7 points per game. He is averaging 2.0 rebounds per contest, with six assists, three steals, and one block.
Selton Miguel is second on the squad averaging 14.0 points per game and he is tied first on the team with 5.0 rebounds per game. He has added five steals, four assists, and one block.
Jose Placer rounds out the double-digit scorers with 12.0 a contest. He is averaging 2.3 rebounds per game with six assists and four steals.
Corey Walker Jr. is averaging 5.0 rebounds per game, which is tied for the most on the team. He leads the team with two blocks. He is averaging 6.7 points per game.
Jayden Reid has a team-best 14 assists. He is tied for 15th in the NCAA with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 7.00 and is third in the AAC. He is tied for the team lead with five steals. He is averaging 6.3 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per contest. As a team, the USF bench is averaging 35.67 points per game, which is 23rd in the NCAA and best in the AAC.
Defending the 3
South Florida is sixth in the NCAA at defending the 3-pointer. The Bulls are holding opponents to just 21.3 percent from long distance. Last Time Out
South Florida utilized an 18-0 run in the first half to defeat Northern Iowa 74-65. Placer led USF with a game-high 21 points. He added three assists, two rebounds, and one steal.
Kobe Knox recorded his best performance of the season with 13 points to go along with three rebounds.
Corey Walker Jr. finished with a game-high two blocks and added nine points. Youngblood produced a game-high two steals and a game-high four assists to go along with his eight points.
Selton Miguel produced a game-high seven rebounds and added eight points.
History with Maine
South Florida and Maine will meet for the third time on Wednesday. USF leads the series 2-0. Both meetings have come in Tampa, with the last being a 67-66 victory on January 12, 1978.
Scouting the Black Bears
Maine is led by Kellen Tynes who is averaging 14.3 points per game to go along with 3.0 rebounds per contest. He has a team-high 15 steals and is second on the squad with 22 assists. The South Florida men's basketball team is led by Amir Abdur-Rahim, who was named the 11th head coach in program history on March 29, 2023. Abdur-Rahim was named the 2023 Mid-Major Coach of the Year (Hugh Durham Award) after leading Kennesaw State to its first-ever Division I NCAA Tournament berth in 2022-23. Abdur-Rahim's Kennesaw State team set an NCAA record as the fastest team to ever reach the NCAA Tournament after a one-win campaign, accomplishing the feat in a span of just three seasons. USF has retired three numbers in its history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30), and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids, appeared in the NIT eight times, and won the 2019 College Basketball Invitational.
