BOCA RATON (February 23, 2022) – The University of South Florida Bulls continue a stretch of four games away from Tampa with a three-game weekend series at FAU. It marks the first of only two non-conference road series the Bulls will play this season.

FAU will join USF in the American Athletic Conference beginning in the 2023-24 athletic season.

South Florida is coming off a thrilling 10-9 comeback victory at No. 7 Florida in Gainesville on Wednesday night. The Bulls trailed 8-3 entering the top of the ninth and exploded for seven runs to take the lead and hold on for the road win.

Drew Brutcher sparked the seven-run frame with a leadoff homer to open the top of the ninth inning. Jackson Mayo, who came off the bench as a defensive replacement in the bottom of the eighth, tied the game with a three-run home run. With two outs, Daniel Cantu gave South Florida a 9-8 lead with an RBI-triple and later scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring frenzy.

Nelson Rivera had a career-high four hits in the win while Bobby Boser and Travis Sankovich each extended their hitting streaks to five straight.

Wednesday was USF's second win over a Top 15-ranked opponent this season after taking the season opener at home over No. 13 Maryland. The Bulls opened the 2023 slate with five games against ranked foes, and will now turn their attention to a 4-0 FAU team that has dominated both at the plate and on the mound early this year.

USF is 5-0 on the road against FAU and will travel to Boca Raton for the first time since a 19-11 victory on April 22, 2018. The Bulls took two out of three from the Owls in Tampa early in the 2021 campaign.
