LYNCHBURG, Va. (Feb. 25, 2023) – The No. 64 USF men's tennis team picked up a 6-1 road-win against No. 46 Penn State in Lynchburg, Va. on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulls came out the gate with confidence in doubles.
Erik Grevelius and
Alvin Tudorica defeated their opponents on court two by a score of 6-1.
Soon after,
Davide Tortora and
Bruno Oliveira would also deliver a court in commanding fashion with a 6-2 victory over Malike Bhatnagar and Charl Morgan.
South Florida entered singles up 1-0.
Elijah Cham was defeated by Sam Bossem 4-6, 0-6 on court four. That would be the only court that the Nittany Lions could win for the rest of day.
Alvin Tudorica would give South Florida its second point by defeating Miko Eala 6-4, 6-1, handing Eala what was just his second singles defeat of the season.
It was sophomore
Thomas Pavlekovich-Smith who would secure the match for the Bulls. After
Tom Pisane topped Stefan Simeunovic on court five, Pavlekovich-Smith's grit would break through in a second-set tiebreaker to put away the match for South Florida.
Davide Tortora and
Erik Grevelius both would play three sets. Both would go on to outlast their opponents and add on to the Bull's 6-1 win over the Nittany Lions.
