Tampa, Fla. (Feb. 3, 2023) – The University of South Florida women's tennis team earned their first win of the season on Friday afternoon after defeating the Florida A&M Rattlers, 7-0. 

The match was scheduled for a 10 a.m. start but it wasn't long into the event before action was halted due to the weather. The action returned at 1:30 p.m., with the teams competing in the singles portion of the match. 
 

USF came out on fire, winning all six courts against the Rattlers. 

In doubles action, the winning ways continued for South Florida. First on court three, Sierra Berry and Ireland Simme claimed a 6-1 victory. Court one followed shortly after with the duo of Grace Schumacher and Margriet Timmermans winning 6-4 in a more tightly contested game.  

Court 3 was the Rattlers' last chance to salvage a match, and they weren't planning on giving it away easily. USF's Laura Pellicer and Cliona Walsh outlasted FAMU's duo of Rebekkah Gaines and Sierra Sandy in a hard-fought 6-6 (6-3) competition.

The Bulls will now hit the road for their next five matches, starting with a trip to Boca Raton to take on the FAU Owls on Saturday, February 11.
