TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 5, 2023) – After a rough road trip to Tennessee, the green and gold hope to turn things around in New York this weekend. South Florida will face Cornell and Columbia on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
The Bulls enter the second weekend of February after dropping their first two matches of the month. As of February 8, Alvin Tudorica is ranked at 114 in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
Scouting Cornell
Cornell enters the Friday match with a perfect 5-0 record on the season.
This will be third time that the two squads meet, with the Bulls winning both previous meetings.
Currently, Cornell's Radue Papoe is ranked 50 by ITA. His latest singles' win was February 5th when he defeated the then-ranked No. 34 Jeremy Schifirs.
Scouting No. 19 Columbia Lions
No. 19 Columbia enters the weekend's match with a 3-1 overall record. After dropping their season-opener match against the then #13 Harvard, the Lions are on a three-game win streak. Their latest win came by way a sweep against Alabama.
This will be the third time that the Bulls will battle the Lions. The last time the two teams competed was March 17, 2022, when the Bulls won 4-3 in Tampa.
Columbia currently has four ranked singles players: No. 14 Michael Zheng, No. 32 Roko Horvat, No. 49 Alex Kotzen and No. 92 Max Westphal. Westphal and Theo Winegar are ranked 16 in doubles.
