TAMPA, Fla. (March 31, 2023) – The No. 54 University of South Florida men's tennis team will take on SMU and Tulane on Sunday and Monday, respectively, at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. Both matches will start at 1:30 p.m.
South Florida has won all seven of its home matches this spring. The squad has also won their last five matches and seven of their last eight.
Erik Grevelius was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending on March 27. The junior from Sweden posted a 4-0 record in singles and doubles play last week against No. 58 Florida Atlantic and Wichita State. He scored a pair of straight-set wins at No. 3 singles, taking a 6-1, 6-2 victory against the Owls and a 6-1, 7-6 (6) decision against the Shockers. Grevelius added 6-2 and 6-4 wins at No. 2 doubles to help South Florida extend its winning streak to five matches.
In the ITA rankings, the Bulls went up six spots to No. 54. This is their highest ranking of the season.
Scouting the No. 50 SMU Mustangs
This will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams, with their first being in Gainesville on Jan. 28 where the Bulls edged out the Mustangs, 4-3.
SMU enters the weekend with an 11-10 record and has yet to win an away or neutral match. The Bulls lead the all-time series, 9-4.
Scouting the No. 43 Tulane Green Wave
Tulane enters Monday's match with an 11-8 record during the spring. During the first half of March, the Green Wave went 6-0 including a 4-3 win over then-ranked No. 28 Middle Tennessee.
The last meeting between the two teams was on April 1, 2022, in New Orleans, La. South Florida won the match 5-2. The overall record stands at 8-3, with the Green and Gold having the upper hand.
