USF Track and Field Hosts South Florida Invitational

Tampa, Fla., April 6, 2023 – The University of South Florida track and field team returns to the USF Track and Field Stadium this weekend to host its second meet of the 2023 season in the South Florida Invitational. The men will compete of Friday, and the women on Saturday. The Bulls will also host the Fastest Kid in Tampa event, that will take place on Saturday at 3 p.m.

"We are excited to be competing at home again," head coach Erik Jenkins said, "I think there will be quality competition and we look forward to some good performances."

Kobe Babin, Stone Baker and Noah Bitter start the weekend on Friday at 2 p.m. in the pole vault. Shortly after, Johann Jeremiah represents South Florida in the shot put. 

At 4 p.m., NCAA indoor national champion, Romaine Beckford will compete in the high jump along with Kendell Mosley. Wrapping up the day for field events is Jeremiah in the discus.

The men's 4x100 relay team kicks off track events at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, followed by Michael Bourne III's participation in the 110m hurdles. Bourne currently holds the program record with 13.91 seconds.

Elijah Wright will represent the green and gold in the 400-meter dash at 5:50 p.m. Zayquan Lincoln and Danelson Mahautiere compete shortly after in the 100m dash, followed by Jesse Benavides, Ezekiel Shore, Daunte O'Banion and Monte Parker in the 800m.

Bourne returns to the track at 6:35 p.m. for the 400m hurdles, while Shevioe Reid will compete for the Bulls in the 200m dash.

Friday's competition wraps up at 7:05 p.m. with the 5000m, featuring Nickolas Kamen, Tyler Wadsworth, Sebastian Edwards, Tyler Engleman, Julian Yescas, and William Armbruster, and the 4x400 relay at 7:25 p.m.

On Saturday, the women's competition starts in full force with Alliya Boothe and Ameilya Richardson representing the Bulls in the hammer throw at 11 a.m., followed by Shaniya Benjamin, Jadaja Baxter, Annia Ashley, and Loren Johnson in the women's long jump at 2 p.m.

Audrey Wuerffel, Riley Hunt, Ella Dolce, and Annalise Zeinemann compete in the pole vault competition, followed by Boothe in the shot put.

Nia Robinson and Kendall McDaniel kick off the high jump and triple jump competition at 4:30 p.m. Johnson will return for her second event of the day in the triple jump as well. 

Amber Brown wrap up the day's field events at 5 p.m. in the discus throw.

The track events for the day again starts with women's 400 relay at 5 p.m. Cora Kolodge and Ashley Silva will lead the Bulls in the 1500m race at 5:25 p.m., followed by Hannah Connell and Abega in the 100 hurdles at 5:45 p.m.

Je'Nyia Burton, Kayla Hugg, Doneisha Anderson, and Zahria Allers-Liburd compete in the 400m, followed by Zayne Jack in the 100m dash at 6:10 p.m. Shrotly after, Carolyn Brown, Arden La-Rose, Alyssa Wyatt, Victoria Valdez, and Gina Fuca hit the track for the 800m.

Madeline Abega, Shaneylix Davila and Chakiya Plummer represent the Bulls in the 400m hurdles at 6:45 p.m., while Terren Peterson, Anderson, and Jack run the 200m at 6:55 p.m.

Cora Kolodge, Kelly Lynch, Chloe Byrd, Mira Stimac, Marissa Hagenbarth and Hailey Cohen will compete in the 5000m at 7:10 p.m., followed by the 4x400 relay at 7:35 p.m. to close the weekend.

About USF Track and Field

The USF track and field team has earned 56 All-American selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Romaine Beckford won the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championship in the men's high jump. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
