Men’s Soccer Set For Clash With Clemson Tuesday Night

TAMPA (September 11, 2023) – The University of South Florida men's soccer (1-3) program welcomes Clemson (2-2-1) to Corbett Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 7:00 p.m. The contest will air live on ESPN+.
 
SETTING THE STAGE
USF collared its first win of the season last Friday in a 1-0 victory against No. 15 Indiana. The Bulls have won one of their last four games to start the campaign. Clemson has won two of its last three matches. • Most recently the tigers fell, 3-2 on the road to Notre Dame.
 
SOUTH FLORIDA-CLEMSON SERIES
Friday's match marks the 16th all-time meeting between the two squads. The paring extends back to the 1972 season. Clemson leads the series against the Bulls, 12-1-2. South Florida's lone win against Clemson was a 2-1 overtime victory (Oct. 25, 1980). In the last paring, the Tigers won 3-0 (Sept. 6, 2021).
 
LAST TIME OUT
South Florida topped No. 15 Indiana, 1-0, in the programs first win of the season. Graduate Forward Jalen Anderson netted the Bulls' first goal of the season, the assist came from senior midfielder Ajmeer Spengler. Goalkeeper Alan Horrocks logged the first shutout win of his career. South Florida recorded its first clean sheet of the season.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Clemson was tabbed as the overall ACC Champion by the league's head coaches, earning six first-place votes. The Tigers were also picked as the Atlantic Division Champions, with five first-place votes. Mohamed Seye (four goals) is the Tigers' leading scorer and is one of nine players who have found the net this season. Nathan Richmond is Clemson's assist leader with three on the year.
 
A LOOK AHEAD
The Bulls remain home at Corbett for the next two matchups, welcoming Elon on Sunday (Sept. 17) at 7:00 p.m. and SMU (Sept. 22).
 
USF ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Alumni Jeff Attinella has been selected as a member of the 2023 USF Athletics Hall of Fame Class and will be inducted on Thurs., Nov. 9. An NSCAA First-Team All-American goalkeeper (2009), Attinella is one of two student-athletes to receive that honor in USF men's soccer history. A three-time All-Region selection and three-time Big East All-Conference honoree, earning first-team honors in both in 2009, Attinella played on four NCAA Tournament Teams and helped lead the 2007 team to the NCAA Sweet 16 and the 2008 team to the NCAA Elite Eight.

USF Men's Soccer competed in the school's first-ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3.
