Women’s Tennis opens Fall slate at Penn Invitational

The Bulls faced their first test of the season with competition against Columbia, Delaware, Drexel, Syracuse and Penn over three days in Philadelphia.

Tampa, Fla. (September 25, 2023) – The University of South Florida women's tennis team officially opened its 2023-24 campaign at the Cissie Leary Invite hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. The three-day event lasted from Friday through Sunday and saw the South Florida Bulls compete against Columbia, Delaware, Drexel, Syracuse and host Penn.

South Florida began the weekend with matches against Drexler on Friday with a pair of doubles victories and a clean sweep of six singles matches. The team of Nadja Bay Christians and Marta Falceto Font along with Ireland Simme and Kelly Vargas picked up wins in tandem play. Grace Schumacher, Vargas, Falceto Font, Melisa Senli, Simme and Gargi Pawar each picked up singles wins over Drexel.

Friday's action also saw the team of Pawar and Sabrina Ibarra earn a doubles victory over Penn.

Bay Christians and Falceto Font opened play on Saturday with a doubles win over Columbia while Pawar and Ibarra picked up singles triumphs over Delaware.

Vargas earned a singles win against Penn as play concluded on Sunday.
