USF Track and Field stampede into Louisville for their second Indoor meet of the season

Tampa, Fla., Jan. 24, 2024 – The University of South Florida track and field team competes in its second indoor competition this weekend at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Ky. The Bulls are coming off program record-breaking performances from the season-opening Jimmy Carnes Invitational hosted in early January, which resulted in Jermaine Dyges winning AAC Male Track Athlete of the Week afterward.
The Bulls return to the field and jump back into action on day one at 10:00 am Friday with the Women's Long Jump events. South Florida will have Annia Ashley and Shaniya Benjamin competing. The Men's Long Jump will follow at 12:05 pm, with Elisha Teneus-Claude making his debut for the Bulls after transferring from South Plains.
Both the Women's and Men's High Jump will take place at 5:05 pm on Friday. For the men, Teneus-Claude and Kendell Mosley are set to jump, while the women have Ashley scheduled to compete.
Saturday will see the Men's and Women's Triple Jump occur concurrently at 10:00 am, with the women slating Mimansa Dahiya to make her South Florida debut, and the men set to have Goodness Iredia make his season debut.
The Women's Pole Vault flights begin at 10:00 am Friday and will include Ella Dolce and Riley Hunt competing for the Bulls. The Men's Pole Vault flights will take place the next day, Saturday at 10:00 am and feature Kobe Babin, Noah Bitter, and Andreas Kreiss.
Throwing starts off Friday at 10:00 am with the Women's Weight Throw which will include Alliya Boothe and Alexandria Hunter. This will be followed by the Men's Weight Throw and include Aidan Marsh throwing for the Bulls.
The next day will begin with the Women's Shot Put at 10:00 am, with the Bulls set to throw Boothe, and Jasmyn James, who is making her South Florida Debut as a transfer from Iowa Western Community College. The Men's Shot Put will take place after and include Marsh throwing for the Bulls.
On the Track, qualifying competition will commence at 10:00 am Friday with the Men's 60m and include Dyges, Zayquan Lincoln, Shomari Pettigrew, and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu. The Women's 60m dash qualifying will follow and see Zahria Allers-Liburd, Amani Kirnon, and Lynette Scutari race for the Bulls. The Men's 60m Finals will be on Saturday at 12:30 pm, with the women's just before at 12:25 pm.
For the 60m Hurdles, South Florida will send out Michael Bourne III, Tyler Drew, and Markel Jones for their men. Then the women will race Antonia Sealy just following the men. The Finals for the men will be held at 12:20 pm on Saturday and with women's at 12:15 pm the same day.
At 11:10 am the 200m competitions will begin, first with the women including Shaniya Benjamin, Je'Nyia Burton, Terren Peterson, and Scutari. Then at 11:30 am the men will race Tre'Sean Bouie, Jaleel Croal, Nathan Metelus, and Shevioe Reid.
By 12:15 pm the Men's 3,000m is set to start and include Johnny Reid and Tyler Wadsworth for the Bulls.
After, the women will begin their 400m which will see Burton, Peterson, and Amenda Saint-Louis for the Bulls. Following, the men will run their 400m with six Bulls racing, Devontie Archer, Bouie, Metelus, Gabriel Moronta, Daunte O'Banion, and Shevioe Reid.
At 1:40 pm the Women's 800m will begin, with the Bulls racing Saint-Louis, and Arden La-Rose. The Men's 800m will follow at 2:10 pm and include Thomas Ashley and Karim Belmahdi, who is making his South Florida debut coming from Monroe College.
The meet will conclude on Saturday with the 4x400m relays. The women will run at 1:50 pm, while the men will follow at 2:15 pm.
About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 56 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Romaine Beckford won the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championship in the men's high jump. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record, earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season, the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
