Men’s Soccer Set For Road Test At UNC Wilmington Monday Night

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 1, 2024 – South Florida men's soccer (1-1-1) hits the road for the first time in 2024, pairing up against UNC Wilmington (1-0-1) on Monday at 7 p.m. and the match will stream live on FloSports.
 
SETTING THE STAGE
USF will look to secure their first road win against the Seahawks and their win streak to two games. After grabbing a win over Eckerd, 2-0, the Bulls will look to keep their momentum going heading into their Labor Day weekend clash.
 
SOUTH FLORIDA-UNC WILMINGTON SERIES
This is only the third meeting between both programs, the first since 2021. The Bulls are 1-1 against the Seahawks. USF dropped their last meeting against UNC Wilmington, 1-0 (Aug. 29th, 2021). USF prevailed in the first-ever meeting, 2-0 in 1986.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Bulls shut out Eckerd last Thursday night, 2-0, securing their first win of the season. Jalen Anderson secured his 20th career goal in route to the shutout victory. Lovro Kostanjsek notched his first career goal and Felix Schaefer collected his second shutout of the season, sixth career.
 
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
The Seahawks tied in their season opener against Furman, 1-1 (Aug. 22nd). Alex Hornada grabbed the team's first goal of the season. Head Coach Aidan Heaney enters his 24th season at the helm after coming off a 6-6-4 season in 2023.
 
A LOOK AHEAD
South Florida returns home for a meeting with FGCU on Friday, Sept. 6. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the match will stream live on ESPN+. There will be a USF Men's Soccer Scarf giveaway for fans.

USF Men's Soccer competed in the school's first-ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3. Since then, the oldest program on campus has built a winning tradition, claiming 14 conference championships and making 22 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 3 trips to the elite eight.
 
The program also has a strong reputation within the professional game and boasts 30 MLS draft picks. Notable alumni include two-time MLS Golden Boot winner Jeff Cunningham, USA 1994 World Cup star Roy Wegerle, and 2013 MLS Cup winner Dom Dwyer. Men's Soccer has two Alumni and a coach in the USF Athletics Hall of Fame: Fergus Hopper and Jeff Attinella, & Dan Holcomb. Cunningham has also been selected to join the USF Athletics Hall of Fame this Fall.

The Bulls have reached the NCAA Tournament 13 times over the past 22 seasons.
