USF Softball Falls Short Against No. 22 Michigan

TAMPA, FLA., February 7, 2025- The University of South Florida softball team fell to the No. 22-ranked Michigan Wolverines, 1-0, on Friday night for their first loss of the season at the USF Softball Stadium.
 
First-year pitcher Anne Long earned the first start of her career. The Sanford native pitched 4.1 innings and struck out four batters. Long pitched 4 scoreless innings before the Wolverines scored the lone run of the game.
 
The Wolverines scored after a walk, a Bulls' error, a single, and a groundout. Redshirt junior Payton Dixon pitched 2.2 hitless innings, striking out two.
 
South Florida had a chance to score in the seventh inning with back-to-back singles from Alex Wilkes and Josie Foreman. Michigan retired the next three batters to end the game.
 
Josie Foreman matched her career-high of three hits against No. 22 Michigan. The last time she had three hits was against Mississippi State on May 5, 2022. It's the fifth time in her career she had a three-hit performance.
 
Notables
  • Foreman went 3-for-3 with one double, the only player with a multi-hit performance.
  • Long made her first career start, pitching 4.1 innings.
  • Long set a career-high of four strikeouts.
  • Dixon pitched 2.2 hitless innings with two strikeouts.
