Box Score TAMPA (March 9, 2025)- No. 36 South Florida (12-3) earns a 6-1 win over No. 13 University of Central Florida (14-4) to earn their highest-ranked win in over 10 years. After losing in a tight match against the Knights at home with a 4-3 score on February 3, the Bulls traveled to Orlando, Fla. for a rematch.
The Bulls started the match strong by taking two of the three doubles courts. After dropping Court 1,
Agustin Cuellar and
Ettore Danesi earned a 6-3 win on Court 3. With the score split,
Ben Hudson and
Toto Llanes battled on Court 2. The pair came out victorious with a 7-5 score to give the Bulls the lead going into singles.
The Bulls dominated in singles play, taking every court but one.
Hugo Car finished swiftly on Court 1 with a 7-5, 6-4 triumph.
Elijah Cham followed with another swift 7-5, 6-4 win on Court 3. After dropping a court, the Bulls were leading 3-1. Cuellar delivered the clinching point for the Bulls with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 win on Court 2. Llanes followed on Court 6 with a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory.
Gughi Verdese ended the match strong on Court 4 with a 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 2-1 (Retired) win, finalizing a score of 6-1.
The Bulls are now 12-3 overall and 6-2 on the road. For singles play, Car now stands at 10-1 and extended his 10-game win streak. Cuellar remains undefeated in singles on the season, holding onto a 10-0 record. Verdese is now 10-4, while
Stepan Mruzek is 9-1.
UP NEXT
The Bulls will return home for a four-match home stand. South Florida will start by facing No. 30 University of Pennsylvania (14-3) on Wednesday, March 12. The Bulls are 3-0 against the Quakers in previous match-ups, their last meet-up being in 2020, where the Bulls came out on top with a score of 4-0.
