USF Women’s Golf Wrapped Up Its First Tournament of 2025

Cherry Marley and Tiphani Knight led the Bulls with a low round of 72

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (September 8, 2025)Cherry Marley and Tiphani Knight led the University of South Florida women's golf team at the Wolverine Invitational. Marley tied for 25th while Knight tied for 29th as the Bulls tied for ninth in the first tournament of the 2025-26 season.
 
Marley's best score came in the second round, where she shot a 72 (+1). She finished the second round with back-to-back birdies. Her seven birdies were tied for a team high. She finished the tournament tied for 25th with a three-round mark of 223 (+10).
 
Knight recorded two birdies in the second round as she posted her best score of the tournament with a 72 (+1). She tallied seven birdies for the tournament, with three of those coming in the opening round. She finished tied for 29th with a 224 (+11). Knight was stellar on the par 3s, finishing the tournament tied for second in the field with an average of 2.92 (-1).
 
Holly McLean posted five birdies for the tournament. Regina Plascencia produced four birdies across the three rounds. Valentina Bosselmann dominated the 8th hole, birdying it in all three rounds. She finished the tournament with three birdies. Bosselmann finished the tournament tied for fourth on par 3s, averaging 3.00 (E).
 
The Bulls return to the course on Monday, September 22, for the Canada Collegiate Invitational. South Florida heads to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, for three rounds on the Beacon Hall Golf Club.

Tampa native AJ Newell, a former LPGA Tour player and NCAA All-American, enters her second season as head coach of the USF women's golf team. In her first season, she coached Leonor Medeiros to the American All-Conference Team. Newell coached the Bulls to four top 10 finishes in the 2024-25 season.
 
Newell took over leadership of the Bulls' program following a successful three-year stint as assistant coach at the University of Michigan, where she helped guide the Wolverines to three straight NCAA Regional appearances, a 2022 Big Ten title, and a trip to the 2022 NCAA Championship Finals.
