USF Women’s Golf Has Its Eye on an American Conference Championship

TAMPA, Fla. (April 19, 2026) – The University of South Florida women's golf team's quest for an American Conference Championship begins on Monday, April 20, at the Southern Hills Plantation Club for three rounds. The final round will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
South Florida has finished in the top five in six tournaments this season and has two individual winners, Cherry Marley and Regina Plascencia. Marley, Plascencia, Holly McLean, Alice Webb, and Emma Kim will represent the Bulls at the American Championship.  
 
South Florida will be joined by Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, North Texas, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB, UTSA, and Wichita State.
 
Southern Hills Plantation Club is a 6,289-yard, par-72 course. Everyone will tee off on the first hole. The Bulls tee off at 8 a.m. and will be joined by the Golden Hurricane and the Mean Green.

Tampa native AJ Newell, a former LPGA Tour Player and NCAA All-American, enters her second season as head coach of USF women's golf. In her first season, she coached Leonor Medeiros to the American All-Conference Team. Newell coached the Bulls to four top-10 finishes in the 2024-25 season.
 
Newell took over leadership of the Bulls' program following a successful three-year stint as assistant coach at the University of Michigan, where she helped guide the Wolverines to three straight NCAA Regional appearances, a 2022 Big Ten title, and a trip to the 2022 NCAA Championship Finals.
